Originally recorded as rough demos on a four-track in 1982 with the intent of fleshing them out with the E Street Band, Bruce instead chose to release them as they were — raw, haunting, and unvarnished.

Stripped of stadium anthems and rock ’n’ roll gloss, Nebraska reveals Springsteen at his most vulnerable and literary, a songwriter alone with his stories and a tape machine.
