Razorlight arrived with plenty of swagger on Up All Night. Released in 2004, their debut captures the restless energy of early-2000s British indie rock: wiry guitars, urgent rhythms, big choruses and Johnny Borrell singing like every night might be the last one worth staying awake for.
Golden Touch is the obvious anthem, but there’s plenty more here. Rip It Up tears along at full speed, Vice and Rock 'n Roll Lies bring the attitude, Stumble And Fall is all sharp-edged melody, while (Don't Go Back To) Dalston and In The City bottle the grubby romance of London after dark.
There’s a youthful recklessness running through the whole record, but beneath the bravado are genuinely terrific pop instincts. Fast, scrappy and ridiculously immediate, Up All Night remains a cracking snapshot of the moment British guitar music came roaring back into the clubs, pubs and festival fields.
