Dearly beloved, it's no secret how we feel about Prince here at Waxx Lyrical. We featured Purple Rain as a Record Of The Month in 2022 and have been waiting for Prince's birthday to fall on a Friday night since. Co-incidentally, it's also the 40th anniversary of Purple Rain, the album and film that transformed Prince into a household name and global megastar. Singles 'When Doves Cry' and 'Let's Go Crazy' hit #1, while the epic title track stopped at #2 yet became the anthem most synonymous with the man.
