Forever Five: Meg Mac

It’s hard to believe it’s been 12 years since this writer first heard Meg Mac’s voice on the radio. Driving at the time, the car was quickly pulled to the side of the road and a call made—immediately—to her manager at the time. The song was 'Every Lie'. Remarkably, her best material was still ahead of her. A glance across her catalogue while curating this playlist reveals a run of perfectly penned songs that, in our opinion, stands alone among her generation in this country. Why she isn’t a Taylor Swift–sized part of the zeitgeist is beyond us.
Meg Mac doesn’t sing—she testifies. Her voice feels ancient and divine, piped straight from the heavens and filtered through heartbreak, hope and holy water. There’s weight to it, warmth too. A richness that speaks of soul, but also of restraint—of knowing exactly when to let it burn and when to let it breathe. In our humble opinion, there isn’t a more controlled or focused voice in the country.
And it all comes from a woman with an old soul and an enormous heart space.
Her Forever Five is steeped in that same emotional gravitas—songs built on groove and gospel, torchlight and truth. You get the sense that every note chosen here has shaped her in some deep, elemental way. There’s romance and resistance. Spirit and swagger. A pull toward the past, but with both feet planted firmly in the now.
It’s all heart.
All feeling.
All soul.
Just like Meg.
