From flourishing indie label False Peak Records out of Mt. Cotten, QLD, comes the gorgeous debut album from Spring Skier.
If the warmth of company can combat the cold of distance and solitude, then in the pairing of their singular visions, Remy Boccalatte and Kane Mazlin surely stir the fires of folk and reverie. Within the comfort of that gentle crackle forms an ageless Simon and Garfunkle-esque pop, held not by the calendar or the clock, but by shared imagination.
Rummaging through a storage container filled with stained clippings, old pins and All Access passes, a hardrive was stumbled upon, like a lost, black box recorder. Upon inspection, the files were discovered for Spring Skier's "We Were Astronomers", a collection of songs which did not seem to fit with the musical outlets at the time: Kane in the indie pop Hungry Kids of Hungary and Remy in the post-hardcore Paper & The Plane. Recorded by Matt Redlich (Ball Park Music, Holy Holy) after Remy joined the Hungries, the songs are rooted in 'dream folk', drawing influence from new and old, evoking a sense of nostalgia through well constructed, pop sensibilities.
